Cake Pops the easy way!

Cake on a stick covered in chocolate.

Yeah,You had me at cake!

Normally cake pops are all about making a cake then destroying it by crumbling it into little pieces and adding butter cream icing, then rolling this mix into balls and putting it in the fridge/freezer to set before you can get to the fun part, the decorating.

Don’t get me wrong, this sounds amazing but I have an easier way. I was given a cake pop maker for my birthday! Cake pop makers turn out 12 cake pops in 5 minutes! YAY! It is a wise friend who knows that fast cake = happiness.

Before I began I researched  a few cake pop makers and here is what I learnt;

You can’t just use regular cake mix as they won’t rise in the cake pop maker and you will end up making flat little pancake like thingies.

In my searching I found that the good people at Kambrook (who also have a cake pop maker in the market) keep a PDF copy of their manual & recipe book online and I figured this was a good place to start. I made the vanilla recipe first and then tweaked it to make the chocolate cake pops.

The cake pop maker comes with the sticks and stand for decorating. The decorating is the best / messiest part.

Heres a few handy hints I learnt in cake pop land.

  • If you make more than 12 at a time use the styrofoam that comes in the box with the maker as the stand for any extras during decorating. Just make little X’s with a sharp knife into the foam and it will hold all your extra cake pops.
  • Before you begin decorating dip the sticks into the chocolate and then into the cake pop and allow it to set (freezer is good to speed this up) this makes sure that the cake pop is glued to the stick and now it won’t fall off in the chocolate
  • Don’t swirl the cake pop in the chocolate, you want to have a deep dish that you can dip and cover the cake pop completely with chocolate.
  • If you want vanilla and chocolate cake pops! Umm who wouldn’t 🙂 Make the first 12 cakes vanilla and then add 2 tablespoons of sifted cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of milk to the remaining mix.
